What album has been most influential in your life?
Submitted by Soup.
The most influential album on my life is probably is Minor Threat. Seven years ago, I picked up Minor Threat's Complete Discography, along with 13 Songs by Fugazi. Both of these albums have completely shaped my life, who I am, and all the future music I would listen to.
Back in middle school, all my friends started doing extacy and smoking pot. These things just didn't appeal to me, and I never wanted to experience anything like that. Listening to Minor Threat made me realize I wasn't alone, and actually there was an entire section of music geared towards my own views. Straight-edge was something I could relate to for 6 years of my life. Hardcore was something I could relate to.
I've never really been able to get away from my roots either. I've always had a soft spot for lo-fi music. Musicians who don't really use too many electronic manipulators. Also slow, long songs have just never been my style. So, they've influenced me all over.
The. End.
What's on your "To-Do" list today? What are you most looking forward to and what are you most dreading?
Well, since it's 6 PM already, I'll say what I'm doing tomorrow:
- Go by Bond Park; rent a shelter for my "I'm never coming back to Cary ever again, BITCHES!" celebration
- Do absolutely every piece of laundry I have; make my room presentable for all the relatives coming this weekend (my little brother is graduating on Friday)
- Vacuum out my car. Get rid of any sign of my smoking habit before I leave for camp. (my parents are using my car while i'm gone for six weeks, which means they'll know)
- Call rental places. Make appointments to see houses. (I finally got some roommates, which I'm really excited about. I'll be living with a close friend/ex from high school and his girlfriend. We're planning on having a room just for music and recording. I'm very happy)
- Look for a job for August back in Greensboro
Probably more things. Maybe I'll try for an "A Day In My Life" tomorrow. Unless it's disgustingly hot out. It's been 100 degrees for the past few days.
time to play some guitar
What's the oldest book you own?
Submitted by Lies.
The Oldest book i have, is either Go Ask Alice (my mothers) or Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (my fathers). i probably have others, but that would mean i'd have to have a tangible bookcase in front of me. my memory is not so good, so we just guess now, folks.
if you have not read Go Ask Alice, you should. why i read it when i was nine years old, i do not know. it freaked me out. it's the diary of a girl during the late 60s, who died of a drug overdose. the book is anonymous.

Okay, wikipedia is my friend. Apparently an editor, Beatrice Sparks (a psychologist and mormon youth counselor... hm), wrote it. She then went on to write, like, 8 other "anonymous" diaries about teens on the streets, the occult, teen pregnancy, etc. Now i feel tricked. goddamn. it's still a great book. everyone should read it, even if it is all fiction written by a religious conservative who's just trying to scare the shit out of the "influential minds of our youth". whatever. thanks, wikipedia. thanks, beatrice sparks, for ruining the facade.
oh, the book was also banned for a long time. which is why i probably wanted to read it so badly when i was younger. i guess that right there is a good enough reason to read it.
How are you spending this Memorial Day? How will it differ from Memorial Days past?
um. i usually spend it with my aunt and uncle from maryland at my parents lake house. this year, i'm spending it with my aunt and uncle from portland at their house by a lake.
man, i'm awesome.
What do you do when you get a crush on someone?

I become their friends. Which eventually turns into me only liking them as a friend. So it's cool.
What is your deepest, darkest fear?

that i will end up never getting out of north carolina. that i will never be satisfied. that i will never find someone that finds me better than just a good lay. that i will never be happy with my life.
yay.
How many pair of shoes do you have? Out of those pairs, how many do you wear more than a few times a year?
Submitted by fightinggale.
i don't have many shoes. let's be cliche though. because i'm a "girl", not many shoes means more than one. i have about... six (2 sneakers, 1 sandal, 1 slip on, 1 flat, 1 heel). i lost a few pairs somehow, which is really dissapointing.
out of these six, i wear five of them constantly. because i will never, ever, ever wear heels again. i will never be doing a recital again, so i have no reason to dress up. also, this means i have no "nice" clothes if i ever do have a job interview.
but really. if i could NOT wear shoes, life would be amazing. i remember being a little kid and running through the woods with my friends. shoeless. walking over pinecones, pine needles, anything else sharp.. and not caring. i also have a habit of walking on my toes. i've been doing this since i could walk. apparently when i was a kid, i wanted to be taller (actually see over the counter). and now, 16 years later, i still do it. but not so much. because i have to wear shoes, and you can't really stand on your toes as comfortably while wearing shoes.
okay that's it. hello, vox. let's see how you work out.
