Sometimes- rarely- I think I'm pretty. The End.
WOO! i finally figured out how to make a banner. it may be extremely pixilated, but i made it! it's a sweet ass picture i took of a condenser mic at my friends show.
yay!
What album has been most influential in your life?
Submitted by Soup.
The most influential album on my life is probably is Minor Threat. Seven years ago, I picked up Minor Threat's Complete Discography, along with 13 Songs by Fugazi. Both of these albums have completely shaped my life, who I am, and all the future music I would listen to.
Back in middle school, all my friends started doing extacy and smoking pot. These things just didn't appeal to me, and I never wanted to experience anything like that. Listening to Minor Threat made me realize I wasn't alone, and actually there was an entire section of music geared towards my own views. Straight-edge was something I could relate to for 6 years of my life. Hardcore was something I could relate to.
I've never really been able to get away from my roots either. I've always had a soft spot for lo-fi music. Musicians who don't really use too many electronic manipulators. Also slow, long songs have just never been my style. So, they've influenced me all over.
The. End.
What's on your "To-Do" list today? What are you most looking forward to and what are you most dreading?
Well, since it's 6 PM already, I'll say what I'm doing tomorrow:
- Go by Bond Park; rent a shelter for my "I'm never coming back to Cary ever again, BITCHES!" celebration
- Do absolutely every piece of laundry I have; make my room presentable for all the relatives coming this weekend (my little brother is graduating on Friday)
- Vacuum out my car. Get rid of any sign of my smoking habit before I leave for camp. (my parents are using my car while i'm gone for six weeks, which means they'll know)
- Call rental places. Make appointments to see houses. (I finally got some roommates, which I'm really excited about. I'll be living with a close friend/ex from high school and his girlfriend. We're planning on having a room just for music and recording. I'm very happy)
- Look for a job for August back in Greensboro
Probably more things. Maybe I'll try for an "A Day In My Life" tomorrow. Unless it's disgustingly hot out. It's been 100 degrees for the past few days.
time to play some guitar

creepiest, coolest shit ever.
so. i did not realize that Mudhoney and R.E.M were the same night. so now i have the huge decision to make: see Mudhoney/Birds of Avalon OR R.E.M/The National/Modest Mouse. what to do, what to do.
also, apparently my anxiety is worse than i thought. my therapist, bless her heart (um, yeah. that whole southern thing. whoopee), wanted to teach me these meditation breathing technniques, and asked me to uncross my arms. i told her i felt extremely tense as soon as i uncrossed my arms from across my torso, and told her my usual way of sitting was with a pillow hugged to my chest. so, i grabbed the pillow and sat like that for a few seconds, and smiled at her. she gave me a funny look, and chuckled at my shenanagins. we then proceed to have the following conversation:
Therapist: "so, when you were a kid, did you suck your thumb or bite your fingernails?"
Me: "are you kidding? i still bite my fingernails. look at me now! i'm sitting here picking at my nail beds. i'm a disgusting human being. i will constantly be 6 years old"
Therapist: *laughs* "oh lindsay, you're such a sweet girl, you really shouldn't be this worked up. you seem to have an extreme anxiety disorder. let's try zoloft and see how you feel after a few weeks. are you open to trying medication?"
Me: "of course! bring on the pillzzzz"
yay me.
Show us the five people you'd invite to a dinner party.
1. Ian MacKaye- just like every DC Hardcore fan would.
2. Ira Glass- why not? also, i hear he took forever to get where he is, he'd be a great mentor.
3.Dave Eggers- his books are amazing. what he came from to where he is now is absolutely inspiring.
4. David Rakoff- Hilarious. seems kind of like a papa-bear (i don't know, don't even ask) and would be pretty nice at
dinner. probably would help me clear and wash dishes (because yes, dinner would be at my apartment. with me cooking. because in this fantasy i can cook)
5. Amy Sedaris- i obviously do not look up to many women. but, amy too wonderful to pass up. plus she's from Raleigh.
What's the oldest book you own?
Submitted by Lies.
The Oldest book i have, is either Go Ask Alice (my mothers) or Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (my fathers). i probably have others, but that would mean i'd have to have a tangible bookcase in front of me. my memory is not so good, so we just guess now, folks.
if you have not read Go Ask Alice, you should. why i read it when i was nine years old, i do not know. it freaked me out. it's the diary of a girl during the late 60s, who died of a drug overdose. the book is anonymous.

Okay, wikipedia is my friend. Apparently an editor, Beatrice Sparks (a psychologist and mormon youth counselor... hm), wrote it. She then went on to write, like, 8 other "anonymous" diaries about teens on the streets, the occult, teen pregnancy, etc. Now i feel tricked. goddamn. it's still a great book. everyone should read it, even if it is all fiction written by a religious conservative who's just trying to scare the shit out of the "influential minds of our youth". whatever. thanks, wikipedia. thanks, beatrice sparks, for ruining the facade.
oh, the book was also banned for a long time. which is why i probably wanted to read it so badly when i was younger. i guess that right there is a good enough reason to read it.
Show us something you can't resist.
there are many things i cannot resist. here are my top 5:
this is Valley, playing i think in January? they're some good friends from high school, middle school, and before that. they're all over the state/country right now with school, so shows only happen in the winter and summer. i've gone to almost every show they've put on since probably freshman year of high school, back when they were all in different bands.
be lucky you are not a girl with horrible cramping. i hope everyone's having a better day than me.
How are you spending this Memorial Day? How will it differ from Memorial Days past?
um. i usually spend it with my aunt and uncle from maryland at my parents lake house. this year, i'm spending it with my aunt and uncle from portland at their house by a lake.
man, i'm awesome.
